Kinect Voice Recognition Available Only In Select Regions At Launch
Now here’s a bitter pill many Kinect future owners will have to swallow come launch day – it turns out that the much-touted voice recognition will be limited to select regions when Kinect releases this November and won’t be made available for the rest of the world until as late as Spring 2011.
The lucky few countries who won’t be getting the short end of the stick are the United States, Canada (only in English), UK, Mexico, and Japan. All the rest of the bunch will have to wait until Spring 2011 for voice support to be added to Kinect. This means that even if you speak English, but don’t reside in any of the aforementioned regions, you will have no choice but to take that glass of water and swallow the devilish pill.
Feel free to vent your disappointment in the comments below.

Cue swedish pete.
Yes its coming to the UK, without voice regonition it just makes the whole kinect thing pointless.
Thank you, The_Glovner! Well… ehum *cough, cough*. Oh well, you obviously already not what I’m about to say so instead, I’ll take the opportunity to debunk a myth: fingernails do not grow on dead people as commonly thought by some people. The skin, however, can retract leaving the impression that fingernails and facial hair actually continue to grow.
As far as the Voice Recognition news goes, I figure that British citizens should be able to master (that’s master, not mawhster) US English and sound a heck of a lot cooler in the process. Problem solved.
I had Day Ja Vu when I read this :D
Hey Tony, that’s quite an exotic spelling :-). It’s actually Deja Vu, which you probably would have known if you had played the super cool (and super hard) Commodore 64-game Deja Vu: A Nightmare Comes True.
The_Glovner: My pleasure, my good sir.
Wha…?!
I didn’t actually know that, thanks Pete.
Regards to the voice recognition.
I have a nasty feeling that like most things like that it will accept Queens English and struggle with an accent.
I wait to be happily proved wrong.
Haha yeah I am expecting it to struggle with Scottish, Geordie and Bristolian accents.

Not everybody has the same tastes as you.
