The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of a Dragon... spied

Following the announcement of Crash Bandicoot’s latest adventure last week, comes confirmation of another platforming stalwart whose latest outing will be heading to the Sony PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. Krome Studio’s The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of a Dragon is the final instalment of the current trilogy and is set for release this October.

In a continuation of the plot from The Eternal Night (where Spyto, Cyner and Sparx are left frozen after the collapse of a cave after defeating Gaul the Ape King) the gang set off to defeat the Dark Master once and for all, foiling his evil plans to cast the Dragon World into darkness.

Dawn of the Dragon marks the first Spyro game in which a free-fly mode is included, giving players the freedom to spread the protagonist’s wings to glide off whenever they fancy. Also included is a two-player co-operative mode, where the second player takes control of Spyro’s pal Cynder.

The trilogy has so far been marred with unoriginality in a genre that has already been done to death (and much better in other examples), but here’s hoping Krome can pull something special out of the bag for its closing episode.
