Halo 3: Recon Title Changed to Something Much Less Sexy
Just weeks after the initial details surrounding Halo 3 Recon emerged, Bungie announced today that they will be changing the name of their upcoming title Halo 3: Recon. The announcement was made at Bungie’s blog detailing the new name, as well as a few additional details. Hit the jump for the scoop.
In a frustratingly brief post, Bungie announced the decidedly less sexy title:
As of today, the game formerly known as Halo 3 : Recon will henceforth be known as Halo 3 : ODST.
This new title is a more straightforward account of the experience that awaits and the role you will assume as you explore the streets of New Mombasa.
In the post, they also clarified the pronunciation of the title (”Oh-Dee-Ess-Tee” and not “ohdst”), and stated that there are a few more surprised yet to be announced before the game drops Fall 2009. Hopefully one of those surprises is that they change the name back. As Major Nelson noted over at his blog this makes all Halo 3: Recon merch a major collector’s item, so you may want to snap some of that up to eBay it to some rabid fanboys around launch.
And for all of you wondering, Bungie confirmed in the post that you still can has recon by completing the vidmaster challenges in Halo 3 AND Halo 3: Recon ODST.

Hmm… it’s more specific, I guess.
The Recon title was a bit misleading as there is recon armour in Halo 3. It makes it sound like you’d be playing a Recon soldier in the next game. The ODST title makes more sense although it sounds pretty lame. Recon sounded a lot better.
I really doubt anyone else thought about it that much.

i imagine its something lame but if anyone fancies making up some funny ones perhaps something will catch on and become so popular they return to recon lol.

The game is still huge, it’s hardly flogging the dead horse, it’s giving the community more of what they want.
