NewsFlash: SkyPlayer this October [Update]

The UK Xbox360 Dashboard according to the latest issue of ‘Sky Magazine’ pens the 360 SkyPlayer for release on Xbox Live in October. This service will allow subscribers and current Sky TV customers to access movies, entertainment, documentaries, Sky Sports and more through their Xbox.
The current PC version of Sky Player works by allowing existing Sky TV customers to view the same content they would normally be able to see on their Sky, Sky+, Sky HD set top box with other content on a pay-per-view basis. Non Sky TV customers can view the Sky Player by subscribing to the service. Although pricing and further details for the Xbox360 are not yet confirmed, it is expected to run in a similar way. There are however no current plans to indroduce HD Content right now.

[UPDATE]
The pricing details vary, but for anyone with an existing Sky subscription package then the on-demand content available (for your chosen package) is free of charge so long as you have an Xbox Live Gold Account. To enjoy the benefits of Live Streaming TV on the Xbox360 then you will need to have a Sky Multiroom Subscription. If you have not got a Multiroom subscription additional costs are applicable should you wish to use the Live TV service. Additional Premium Content will also be available.
For anyone without a Sky Subscription; flexible monthly contracts will be available at Launch where the pricing has not yet been confirmed.

The rest of the European Union - please go back to sleep here, there is nothing to see since Sky has shut its door on everyone else.
Shouldn’t be a problem anyways. What’s the point if it’s not HD.
Well… SKY HD is not as common as SKY (they are separate) so currently there aren’t that many channels offering HD Content on SKY HD (It’s normal SKY with capabilities of showing HD TV)
The majority of SKY TV is not in HD so I see the point…plus UK Broadband is shit too so considering this is meant to be streaming, I also see the point.
But it would be nice for HD content when more get added to SKY TV on our TV Sets.
Isn’t SKY a channel? or is it a cable provider like Time Warner / Comcast?
No. It’s a Satellite TV provider, where you have a dish installed and a Sky Box, Sky+ Box or Sky HD box. Then you have subscription packages all beamed directly to your dish on the wall outside which your box decodes and displays on your TV.
However, they do still have their own range of channels as well as all the others available through their service.
What the hell are you talking about?
Sky HD and Sky aren’t seperate, pretty much all Sky’s channels have an HD version which each have plenty of HD content. UK broadband is alright nowadays too, I have a 20Gbps connection with no download limit and is highly stable for just £10 a month. This is fine for downloading HD video. Plus Virign offer 50GB nowadays.
Speak for yourself Bruce, here in the south we get 3mb tops
A Sky Box and a Sky HD box are separate. That’s the point I was making. You can’t watch any HD content on a Sky Box. With the majority of sky subscribers not having HD content. I can see why HD content is not on the 360 since it’s like allowing those without the HD box & subscription to watch HD content.
Be cool if they had HD content for HD box holders and subscribers on the otherhand.
And as for pretty much all Sky’s channels have an HD version… really dont think so! Movies, Sport & Documentaries only. Most entertainment packages which will be on the Sky Player don’t have a HD alternative.
The numbers of HD channels is growing exponentially though.
I remember getting it when there were 9 channels.
I’ve just taken out SkyTalk and SkyBroadband on top, getting 10mbps from the Broadband and free calls to America for landline and mobiles which is good for the wife and a lot better for my phonebill.
Uncharted 2: Already Game of the Year. Just thought you Xbox fags would like to know. You and your Xbox are falling behind. No suprise really.
Ps3 aint got games! It aint got games!
Smitty, i actually own a ps3 slim now as i wanted a nice cheap blu-ray player and they are really nothing to shout about games wise. Good for blu-ray, games a bit thin on the ground though and those that are about just seem a bit limp.
Oh and most games don’t even go up to 1080p, just 720p. WTF???
Smitty: Already won sad little cock of the decade. He had it won the moment he fell right out his mothers cavernous chuff and long before he fell behind in school. Which was when he got moved to his special class, where special bus full of special kids, just like him, get driven from their door and back every day. They spend the day finger painting and push plasticine up each others noses waiting for just before nap time when teacher reads to them from Spot the dog.
Fucking root.
I like spot the dog.
Is the party option for xboxsky going ahead?
If so then if I bought a football game or movie could people join my session and watch it all with me without paying?
Can you buy seperate things or is it just a monthly package?
Cheers!
I love you Glovner, you always make me laugh :o)

I’d say at this point that 90-95% of the games that are released, are released on both systems.
The ‘no games’ argument just isn’t true. get over it. The PS3 is a superior system for the price. You get so much more.
It only does EVERYTHING.
@ Jason Andrews
Pretty much most of Sky’s channels are HD.
All but 2 movie channels are in HD, all there sports channels are in HD, Sky Arts 1 and 2 HD and their main channel Sky1 are all HD. Plus they have 2 Box office channels, thats like 17 channels
The only things left are Sky News, Sky2 & 3
Sky Movies Classics and Indie, Sky Travel and Sky Vegas. 7 channels
I am not talking about channels from other broadcasters as Sky can hardly be held responsible for that.
Get over what? I have both systems now and i still think for games the xbox walks all over the ps3.
If you want a GAMES console that’s fantastic for games go for xbox, if you want a blu ray player, which you can use to surf the net and has a limited selection of decent games, go for the ps3.
Face facts, the ps3 tries to do everything under the sun, but doesn’t hit the mark on any, aside from being able to play blu-ray films!!
PS3, jack of all trades, master of none.
lawl @ glovner. that was the motto for Druids in Warcraft.
the GAMES argument is incorrect. your insistence that GAMES don’t exist for the ps3 is incorrect. GAMES exist on both system, hundreds of GAMES. few titles are exclusive to either system these days, and for every 3 the 360 has, the ps3 has 2. GAMES isn’t an argument.
I also find it funny that people who say ‘360 is for GAMES, ps3 is for bluray’, are the same people who are super excited about Twitter and Facebook on their 360.
I thought the 360 was for games? It’s a social networking TOOLbox. Not a game system.
PS3: It only does EVERYTHING.
Ps3 aint got games!!! and who cares about sky being in HD or not since hardly anybody will be able to stream it :D
Was it? I wouldn’t know, I never played that gay boy fantasy world bullshit.
You are right though, PS3 does have exclusive games, why you even have a wind simulation game.
Fucking shitest sounding idea in the history of games though, Llamatron was a better idea.
PS3 - It only does everything, except play 360 games.
live sport tv…
I have the same opinion as yours on this. What you said is true….
