Animal Crossing: City Folk - new details

Animal Crossing: City Folk might have been amongst a number of titles that ‘core’ players were less than satisfied with when it was unveiled during Nintendo’s press conference at E3 2008, but little would argue that it probably will sell by the bucket load. Nintendo Power magazine has had the latest sneaky preview of the life simulator, and has come back with a feast of new information.

The publication reports that while you wander the game’s main city via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, your character will not be alone there; joined by others who are going about their daily business too. A friends codes system, however, will be used if you want to meet and chat there. And if you decide to visit the auction house, you’ll be able to bid on items owned by other players.

As for downloadable content, it is reported that you’ll be able to take photos of your environment, before sharing it with others by SD card and, we assume, via the Wii Message Board. Additional items such as new furniture and types of wallpaper will be available to download at no additional cost, although whether this will apply to everything Nintendo conjours up to flog to City Folk’s players isn’t yet clear.

And finally, as has already been divulged, the WiiSpeak accessory will not be bundled with Animal Crossing: City Folk. Instead, it will sell for an additional $29.99 USD.

Animal Crossing: City Folk arrives in North America on November 16.

i love this series honestly but im disapointed in this game. primarily the graphics arent even a step over the ds’s wild worlds. Next, i dont know how that camera angle is going to fair, and Finally, the additoin of the city doesnt seem like a big enough change to distinguish this title from its identical counterparts (same story…)

Comment by bug frawg on 2008-08-24 00:08:04

@jo pappa: the resolution seems better than previous versions, and the poly count is a bit higher, but who plays animal crossing for the graphics? the first game in the series to reach america was basically a N64 game running on a gamecube.

Comment by me on 2008-09-05 01:37:11

is this game ever going to be available for the nintendo ds and are any other animal crossing versions coming out for the ds (i dont have a wii and dont wanna buy one) and this game looks ok

Comment by bug frawg on 2008-09-06 11:58:15

it won’t, city folk is meant to use wii’s features.
plus wild world is already on ds, making another animal crossing for it would be pointless.

Comment by isabel on 2008-12-23 17:48:02

i want a new animal crossing because im getting bored of the old one because i got the biggest house you can get and there is nothink else you can do . i havent got a wii only a ds . the wii animal crossing has more things to do like go to town on a bus . i want you to make a new animal crossing game, wicth could include having a family and stuff like that

Comment by me on 2008-09-05 01:38:40

someone please answer my Question ^^^

Comment by Feysprite on 2008-09-09 20:47:12

They need to make a version of this for the DS, but they need to add the holidays, and the ability to decorate your room AND have access to EVERYTHING without having to resort to WIFI, and someone coming to your town in order to experience everything in the game! I was sooooo dissapointed when I got my copy of Wild World only to find out I can only experience about half of the game unless I know someone with the game and a DS, and/or using WIFI which I hate! Atleast they need to make a sequel to Wild World for the DS that doesn’t have so many things missing or hard to come by!

Comment by Feysprite on 2008-09-09 20:49:20

It would NOT be pointless to make a sequel of Wild World for the DS Bug Frawg because there are so many sequels of a game franchise that are different than the original game!

Comment by bug frawg on 2008-09-22 03:19:35

It is pointless because you’re severely limited on changes that can be made on a single platform, unlike games like mario zelda or pikmin, which can more easily swap in new elements. you’re basically asking for a slightly tweaked wild world.

Comment by Feysprite on 2008-09-23 17:53:38

It’s doable, all they need to do is take out things that suck and add things that don’t! Then they’d have room to put in all the things they left to unlock with the retarded WiFi crap which is a waste of time and space in the game memory.

Comment by bug frawg on 2008-09-23 21:11:42

You just don’t get it. most of what makes city folk different is only possible because of the wii’s hardware(friends visiting when you’re not there, plus dlc is extremely difficult to pull with such limited space on ds cards) and even then it’s not that different. so can you imagine this being done on ds? not worth it.

Comment by Feysprite on 2008-10-01 17:27:16

No need to be rude everyone is entitled to their opinion, so telling me I don’t get it is pointless! If they can make Wild World they can make a downsized version of City Folk, don’t get all pissed just because some people want it on ds and you don’t, it was just my opinion not anything to start world war III over, if you don’t agree that’s fine, it can be done though, you just don’t want anyone to say anything because you think you have all the answers! ANY game can be made for the ds it’d just be slightly different. It’s NOT that big of a deal! Someone was just asking a question and I had my own thoughts I wanted to share, you don’t need to answer everyone just to make them feel stupid for having an opinion!

Comment by bug frawg on 2008-10-02 04:31:19

I’m not being rude, just pointing something out.

1.city folk is only truly different from wild world because of wii hardware

2. a ds version would be exactly wild world, just with a different name

Comment by Queen of Random on 2008-10-12 14:52:54

I’m a bit split on this one. Animal Crossing WW is a really good game, and it would be a bit pointless releasing City Folk on DS, because even if you moved your WW character to the City Folk town, you would lose your town, and all of your friends etc. It would be like releasing a WW onto gamecube, when there is hardly any difference. But the city does sound like a really cool addition to the game. I personally think that Nintendo should make some way of downloading the city and extra items etc onto your WW game card, so you have all of the features. Trouble is, that might overload your poor DS, and make City Folk for Wii less unique, so not man people would buy it if you could have it all in your handheld console.

Comment by skyler cornell on 2008-10-22 15:44:50

it’s a good game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Johnny on 2008-10-28 22:25:55

I JUST WANT IT FOR DS IT WOULD BE A GOOD GAME!!!!!!!! Also I think that alot of people would buy it. I know quite a few people who would buy it partly because the DS is portable and partly because Wild World was so good. I think they are loosing money since there not making it for DS.

Comment by Colin Taylor on 2008-11-13 16:28:26

Im so disapointed that city folk didnt come out on this ds.I think they would of sold millions more around the world if they brang this game out on ds.I think personaly that two screans is better than one and the graphics on the nintendo wii game folk city was just as good as wild world.Me and all my mates were disapointed and if it was out on the ds we would que up day to get folk city on the ds.

Comment by Smitty on 2008-11-16 21:40:46

Well see, with everyone arguing over a DS version or not.. I think it would be really neat if they just did a city version of animal crossing. Yeah, the city folk is meant for the Wii’s features.. but they should make a city version with some of the added features.. like more shops to go to, the ablity to decorate for holidays, or even participate in holidays.. there’s a lot they could do insted of just a tweak and still keep the general idea of the story. Im pretty sure people would still buy it — concidering that most people are curious and love the first.. Even for peoople who dont own the first. I mean thats just in my opinion.

Comment by May on 2008-11-16 22:08:22

I hope they make it for the ds AND IT IS NOT POINTLESS . I really want it but then i would spend 300.00 dollars for a wii and the game that i wouldnt be able to play or take it anywhere. Theyll maybe make it for the ds but not in two years or so :(

Comment by fuzzball on 2008-11-22 15:21:54

I would by a new animal crossing on the ds cause , so what if it was slightly changed!
I’m a big fan who wants there little person on the ds to drive a car and live in the city and not in the middle of now where. SO RELEASE THE GAME ON DS!(please)

Comment by fuzzball on 2008-11-22 15:24:28

If it was on the ds the creaters would make alot of money and i would be happy! DONT YOU WANNA SEE ME HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!! (smile)

Comment by rainingskittles3 on 2008-11-23 06:21:09

i also agree you should release the game on ds because many people have ds that would be ausome because you guys are great at the games i love animal crossing wild world but i would love it more if you put city folk for the ds and im sure many others would to.

Comment by younghop on 2008-11-27 01:14:51

they need it for ds only!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wii gets boring really really fast!!!!!!!!!!the wii is expensive and the games are too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its 50 bucks just for the animal crossing wild world!!!!!!!!!!!!if it was ds it would be only 30 bucks when it just comes out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Feysprite on 2008-11-27 19:41:15

I would love for a new version of Animal Crossing for the DS, all they would need to do to make a City Folk version is instead of a town AND a city they could make the city the soul environment! I think it sounds fun for the Wii, but it makes more sense to have Animal Crossing on a portable game system where you can take it wherever you go, with a real time game it just makes sense to make it portable because not everyone is at home 24 hours a day.

Comment by Helen on 2008-11-28 19:35:47

I was upset when i found out that it wasn’t going to be available on ds, i agree that it would be good on wii, but could they not make a game which was better (i.e: more things to do? different roomS? more shops? etc) for ds? i would buy that game.

Comment by Emily on 2009-01-04 21:48:42

i would really like it if you would make it on DS i dont have a wii… but yeah i agree with helen

Comment by luke on 2008-12-05 15:06:08

Comment by luke on 2008-12-05 15:09:41

what we are saying is they could make a new animal crossing for ds but with the town folks town in it it dosent have to have all that wii wifi stuff it would be like a new animal crossing but with better updates maybe not with the wii hardware programs that allow people to go to your town whenever.no one rilly cares who comes to your town.its about how much better the game looks, and new people in the game new acesorys items for your home new clothing and the capability to throw snowballs in the winter or acuily go to a plot and buy a house pick the size of it they could do that for ds no problem just without the wii sofware pro’s.(they would make triple the price to naw noing thta more people own ds’s from preveius years)

Comment by animal crossing addict on 2008-12-19 22:47:06

Um I completely agree. I am addicted to animal crossing and was SOOO excited when the commercial for the new City Folk came on tv, and then my hopes and dreams were shattered when they said it was for the Wii only. Like someone else said, you arent at home 24/7, and thats what makes animal crossing on DS so great because you can bring it with you and check in whenever you want. I agree that adding some new features and just being in a city with maybe more characters and more things to do would be so great. It would add more excitement and diversity to the game. Because once youve basically done all you can do, the game is pretty much the same day to day, with a few changes once in a while. I wish we could all sign a petition and send it to the animal crossing people!

Comment by Bug frawg on 2008-12-21 04:56:48

But for a handheld city folk to exist they’d have to release the next generation of nintendo handhelds(ds2 or whatever it’d be called)

the ds just doesn’t have the hardware to allow for the things that make city folk better than wild world(not just storage space for things like dlc, but the horsepower needed to allow holiday events to take place while playing with friends)

Comment by isabel on 2008-12-23 18:06:10

as you can see you need to make a new AC (ANIMAL CROSSING) on ds . more people will buy it , make it even better . make the people go on holidays to random towns so youb will be able to make new freinds, have a family , have more rooms in the houses, more animals. these are some ideas you can use . and have more fruit to pick . and activities

Comment by Dezzy-Black on 2008-12-23 19:49:16

I just wanna say that if they did make it for the DS, OF COURSE IT WOULD BE HARDER BECAUSE THE DS DOESN’T HAVE THE WII STUFf! But what they could do is just change it to have things the same, right? But you should be able to catch a bus into town, and maybe they could try to get rid of all that WIFI crap. I know, it would take a long time, most likely, but they might be able to!

Comment by Dezzy-Black on 2008-12-23 19:53:23

Sorry, another comment! This time, I’m asking a question:
If they did make an Animal Crossing: City Folk for the DS, couldn’t they just, you know, not have all that “Horsepower” and “More Storage Room” stuff and just make you able to go to the city? Or tell you what, get rid of the “Middle of Nowhere” stuff, and make you live in the city full-time!

Comment by bug dawg on 2008-12-25 21:08:54

Meh, the city is mostly just a way of organising the old stuff(like dr. shrunk and shampoodle) not really anything special.

the real appeal of this game lies mostly in things driven by wii hardware(dlc, animals not staying inside when you invite friends via wi-fi, visiting friends in other countries while an event is going on[there are region specific events!])

the only good thing out of city folk that could be in a ds version is the advanced pattern designer, which I doubt would be worth a new purchase.

Comment by Cojoe on 2008-12-25 07:51:19

I have the game buuuuut…… I want to get money from my DS to my Wii but it won’t let my DS character visit my Wii. Any help offers?

Comment by bug dawg on 2008-12-25 21:13:19

City folk does not allow you to transfer bells from the ds version.

also, if the ds card is from a different region than the game disk, you won’t even be able to transfer your catalogue.

Comment by Brielle on 2009-06-13 01:08:38

I think that there SHOULD be a new animal crossing game for ds, because ACWW has been out for soo long and it’s getting old, really old. There could be so much more in the game, like a town, being able to raise a family, having pets(okay, maybe), making foods, eating foods besides fruit, getting married, going places that aren’t other peoples town, like LA or Miami, or even Australia! There are a million things out there that they could add that would be minor, they would be majorly amazing! I mean, maybe you could grow an orchard and sell it to people in town, or start a business, or own a ranch. You could choose your job, or not have one. Maybe you could run a hotdog stand or have an apartment and a house. There are endless possibilities, you just have to get creative and sometimes get a little messy, but know how to clean yourself up again. It’s all about exploring the world and it’s wonders, so why shouldn’t we? Why shouldn’t we make a change, and shake things up a bit? Life’s all about living, learning, and having fun, so when you combine those things, you wind up with one of the best things you can have.

I reall really think it would be awesome if they made City Folk for DS. I like how city folk has all of the cool holidays that most of us celebrate. I also think it’s easier to play animal crossing on Ds rather than wii because the controls are much easier. Some people dont even have a wii to play this great game. And I have a wii and ds but play my ds most of the time because i cant play wii all the time because my parents watch tv so I cant play on the wii. So i really reaslly really hope they make City Folk for DS!!!! :D :D

Comment by amy on 2009-08-18 23:24:26

i like animal crossing city folk cause its more like real life but it would really be better if they made a city folk for a ds!!!!please!!!i cant play on the wii cause my parents are always watching tv and whenever i wanna play it I CANT TAKE IT ANY WHERE ELSE…I JUST HAVE TO PLAY IT AT MY BORING HOUSE!!!!!

Comment by Ria98 on 2009-08-19 01:26:13

they should make a new animal crossing for ds cuz i have the biggest house you can get and now it’s boring and they should make one were you can have a fsmily

Comment by samantha on 2009-09-06 21:36:28

i agree with the people who wants animal crossing city folk for ds. it’d be so much better like that i loved wild world but now once i saw city folk i got mad cause it was for wi and not for ds. besides if someone didn’t have a ds or a wi im positive that they would rather buy the ds and the game than the wi and the game please make a version for ds it make a lot of more money than the wii version cause a lot more people could afrod a ds not a wii so please have it out befor the end of 2009.that means for all the people who have dss and you release it around december that means game stores, game websites would be packed.[:

Comment by katie on 2009-10-24 05:59:39

u totally need to make an ACCF for ds becuz u cant take a wii anywhere and a wii cost like 300 dollars no one wants to pay that and 50 dollars for one game.most people already have a ds and if they dont they r way cheaper than a wii, i am VERY upset that they didnt make this on wii ok i mean sure it might be a little hard to do that since there r a lot of things that envolve wifi wen using city folk but its not fair for the ds becuz u can only use WW for ds and it gets so boring wen u finish the game becuze eveything is the same old thing everyday. the city folk would be better becuz u could stay in ur town or go to the city and change ur appearence and things easily but its not like that on wild world u have to do things so slowly and to get something thats cool u have to build up to it and it takes forever! i really want u to make a ds version becuz there would be so much money envolved u have no idea. u have no idea wat u are missing out on pls make a ds version i would be:)

Comment by Brielle on 2009-11-11 01:54:27

Hey, it’s Brielle again! Okay, well I did some research and they may create another animal crossing game for DS but it may not be city folk. It all depends on sales for City Folk and ratings. My point being that there very well might be an even better than city folk game for DS, espcially with the DSI out there and there being a higher percentage of DS players than before. If they do make a animal crossing game for DS, I hope there are families, babies, pets, more interactable items, and a more customizable landscape and character. But with the economy being the way it is, there may be a long wait until we get wait we deserve.
