Capcom confirms Resident Evil remake heading to Wii

Following the huge success of both Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles around the world, it was no surprise to hear that Capcom was bringing more of the franchise to Nintendo’s innovative console. However, what was surprising was how Resident Evil 0 was ported without extras in Japan, and now the Resident Evil remake from the GameCube is getting the same treatment.

Both the extensive Wii remake of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and the on-rails shooter Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles have sold in excess of a million units each around the globe so far, which spurred Capcom Japan on to make the decision to green-light a straight port of Resident Evil 0, which originally started as an exclusive Nintendo 64 project, before finally appearing only on the GameCube. Clearly the fact that the Wii is backwards compatible with GameCube games, as well as how Capcom Japan did not bother adding any extras or even give the game any real advertising push, did not have too much of a negative effect on sales.

Resident Evil 0 may have sold well on Wii, but it is not coming to the West

As of today the game has easily sold over 50,000 units in Japan, which will almost be pure profit for the company due to the lack of investment put into the project. Therefore, clear this has had a positive bearing on the future of Resident Evil on Wii, with Capcom Japan now also announcing that on 25th December it will be bringing the remake of the first PSone game, that was a large hit on GameCube, to Wii.

The game will support use of the GameCube controller, but this time there will be some changes made, with Wii Remote waggling allowing for the main character to draw their weapon. Other details are currently unknown, however. Considering Capcom USA and Europe have rather oddly both declined to release the Wii version of Resident Evil 0, perhaps Resident Evil Remake will simply stay in Japan as well…unless there are plans for a Western double-pack release, which would make more sense. Some sources are also speculating that this is a precursor to a fully-fledged remake of Resident Evil 2 for Wii. However, nothing has been confirmed.

Will Resident Evil remake on Wii be released in the West eventually?

Would you be willing to pick up a cheap version of both Resident Evil 0 and the remake of the first game on Wii for a cheap price? And what would you like to see happen with a potential Resident Evil 2 remake? Share your thoughts by posting below…

I would like capcom to add in Resident Evil 2 remake the Crimson zombies from Resident Evil 1 remake, the lost levels of Resident Evil 1.5 with all the bosses/new zombies, a new mode call Raw Kill which is a very bloodly verison of the game, more Berry, more better outfits and sexy ones for claire. More over the top chilling scares like really trying to scare the shit out of some one and give you a heart attack for real! So yes a true dark scary Resident Evil 2 with all the best modes, secrets, weapons, and lots of replay value to make it a more of a hit to when it first came out. Please send this to Capcom so they can read what their fans want? Thank you and have a nice day!

A remake would be more suitable for a machine where is actually fun to play online and would look better(Xbox 360, PS3). For Resident Evil 2, one player could be Leon and the other Claire, they could keep the fixed camera and have an unlockable for a new RE4 style camera once you beat the game. They could also try to explain how Ada survived and where and how Leon and Krauser meet

I would love for there to be a RE 2 Remake on the Wii, but for them to not stop there with just 2. Lets see 2, 3, and CVX remade just like 0 and RE Remake. Or lets see 0, 1, 2, 3, CVX remade just like RE 4 and 5. With the Wii, it is possible, and since you would have to alter the games a bit to match up with the way 4 and 5 move and feel, it would be like playing a new game. Controls would be using either Wiimote and nunchuke, Classic, or GC controller, all the great files that are very interesting to just kick back and read away, as well as bring in the great features that is in 4 and 5, such as viewing all cinemas, Mercinaries mode, a shop of some sorts, and either the character switch that was in 0, or the co-op thing that is in 5. Would take a while for the games to be created, but it is definitly possible, as I would like to see it done, whether it be on Wii or 360, Capcom, get it done.

I would buy resident evil 0 and 1 remake for the wii and would really like to see a remake for RE 2, RE3, and Code Veronica, then they would all look like the RE1 remake, that would be really cool.

I will buy it if it plays like RE4, meaning the mansion is actually 3d and the view is over Jill’s shoulder. They could add in some more stuff to make it longer, too. They could make the mansion bigger.

guys how about this, remake RE 2 for xbox 360 useing the same engine as RE 5 with the partner system and what not, the two players will be leon and claire, and stuff, for resident evil 3 find a way to make it so its the same system as RE 4 since, you have no partner

Personally, I’d love to see a new remake of RE 0 and 1 in a package come to the West for the Wii. I loved the concept and the gameplay of RE 0, and 1 was also great. When and if it comes out to America, I’d most definitely buy it.

i would love if re2,3,and cvx if they looked like 0 and re1 remake and played like they did originally re4 and 5 were good games but they took away wat re was originally i love the crappy camera angles and the way u shot ur gun i loved that i hope that’s wat the reboot dose revert it back to the basics just think how good the graphics could get it don’t take much power to run that type of game so they would have so much extra space to make the game longer and look better and i miss the old stupid moaning zombies not thes parasite infected ones re is about zombies and the parasites in 4 and 5 are not zombies
