Unhappy Vertical or Horizontal? disc scratching

I know all about moving the console while the disc is spinning etc. I just want to know if there has been any word on whether vertical or horizontal is less or more susceptible to scratching discs in a normal situation. Only on COD4 and GTA IV have I had an issue where during the game it occasionally but rearely lock up and continue to try and read the disc. You hear a clicking noise in the console and eventually the message pops up and says "cannot read disc".. etc. When I eject the disc there will be a few small scratches, nothing major They are about 5-10mm in length on different areas of the disc. I assume that the clicking noise is when that contact is happening. I was thinking of moving my console vertical to see if the scratches stop when the disc read happens. This does not happen very often. I've been playing COD4 since it came out and it maybe has done it 5 times total, not so much lately. GTA, one time. I'm more worried about continuous scratches on the game disc than I am of the console. It's not worth sending it to MS at the moment because other than a disc read error once every 30-60 days It run flawlessly. Any thought fellas?

As i said in the other thread, thats how 2 of my consoles died, it starts slow and gets worse and worse until every single game you own is unplayable, it started on the console that is currently with MS in January, i finally send it in when it was completely fucked, just as GTA came out and now i'm fucked, believe me man, just send it in and day you have RRoD while you can. The longer you wait the worse your console and disks will get.

Im no expert but it seems like it is your drive starting to fail reading the disks perhaps?

I guess try using it verticaly as it could also be the solution as it might vibrate too much while on and make the scratches?

I hear ya. But it hasn't been getting worse. As a matter of fact it has been less and less frequent. strange...

its sad yes but id say soon...prolly within 2 months...your drive will completly fail. the previouse console i had would make that clicking noise and would get disk unreadable message with ncaa football 08 and wouldnt do it with any other game. eventually thinking it was the disc i got a new one and the exact same thing happened. finally it quit readin ne of my games so i sent it in. bout two months ago i got a new pro console...175w falcon with benq drive and havnt had ne freeze problems, scratchin, or unreadable message yet. i have also switched to horizontal with my new console cause with the previouse ones i would stand them vertical.

Honestly man, it has begun. Its really just a matter of time, i tried vertical and horizontal, doesn't really make a difference. Wait if you want, but it really really is just a matter of time.

I'm going to move mine to vertical and see what happens. When it fails it fails and I'll send it in. I have a coffin under my desk at work so I can get a jump on the shipping. I've already sent 3 consoles in the past. I'm a pro by now.
